Rookie Davis MLB Baseball

Jeff Ferrell Detroit Tigers (MLB debut 7/4/2015)

Selected by the Detroit Tigers in the 26th round of the 2010 First-Year Player Draft out of Pitt (N.C.) Community College. Attended Laney High School in Wilmington, North Carolina. Just completed his 6th full professional season in the Tigers organization and his second in Double-A Erie. He got called up and made his Major League debut July 4th, 2015. After being sent back down after 2 outings, Jeff was again called back up to the Majors in September where he finished out his season with the big league club. The Rock Solid product threw up a zero ERA in the Arizona fall league! Jeff was signed as a free agent in 2017 by the Baltimore Orioles.

Luke Tendler Boston Red Sox

Drafted in the 29th round in 2014 out of North Carolina A&T University, Tendler is the latest Rock Solid Alum in professional baseball. Tendler's sweet left-handed stroke has had an immediate impact at the pro level allowing him to be named a Northwest League All-Star in his first summer. Tendler's first professional hit was a home run, and he went on to hit ten more (11 total) in a mere 267 at-bats this summer while posting a .316 average. An infielder in college and at Laney High School, Tendler has seen the majority of his time professionally in the outfield. 2015 season was a break out year for Tendler, showing he has what it take to be a top prospect. He was named to yet another All-Star team and led his Hickory Crawdads team in homers. In 2018, Tendler was traded to the Boston Red Sox and optioned for AA ball with the Portland Sea Dogs.  He starts in the outfield and is off to a hot start this season.

Mason Berne Atlanta Braves

Drafted in the 33rd round of the 2018 MLB Draft, Rock Solid alumnus Mason Berne was selected after playing two seasons at UNC-Wilmington.  Coming off a monstrous senior season, Berne led the Seahawks in batting average (.343) and hits with 82 on the year.  He also holds the all-time fielding average at UNCW with an average of .992.  Now playing in the Gulf Coast League for the Atlanta Braves organization, Berne hopes to translate his college success into the big leagues.

Rookie Davis Pittsburgh Pirates

Drafted in the 14th round by the New York Yankees at the 2011 MLB Draft, Rookie Davis has always been a dominant pitcher.  After being drafted out of Dixon High School in Sneads Ferry, NC, Rookie went on to play 4 seasons in the Yankees organization. He was traded to the Cincinnati Reds, alongside two other New York players, in the blockbuster trade that sent Aroldis Chapman to the Yankees. It was with the Reds that he pitched in his MLB debut on April 6, 2017, against the Phillies.  He would go on to pick up his first Major League win on May 3rd against his present-day team, the Pittsburgh Pirates.  Rookie is currently signed to the Pirates' AAA Minor League affiliate, the Indianapolis Indians.

Steven Linkous Colorado Rockies

Drafted in the 22nd round by the Colorado Rockies at the 2016 MLB Draft, Steven Linkous is a menace on the base-paths.  Coming off an electric Senior year at North Brunswick High School, Linkous committed to UNC-Wilmington where he would play for the next 4 years.  After his final year with the Seahawks, Steven had set several UNCW single-season records for triples (7), steals (30) and runs scored (78). After being drafted, Linkous has quickly risen up through the Rockies organization. In just 3 seasons, he's progressed through advanced A ball, to starting the 2019 season with the AAA Albuquerque Isotopes.

Rock Solid and Coastal Athletics Alumnis

Having these guys play for Rock Solid  and/or train at Coastal Athletics has been very rewarding and a true honor. The hard work, dedication and character of these players earned them the success of "Collegiate" and/or "Professional" opportunities.
